About Us
I left NY started as a joke. My wife and I were about to go on vacation to Europe, and we wanted to take few tee shirts with NY logo on them. As we started browsing online and local stores in Manhattan looking for tee shirts, we were in for a big surprise! We realized that we didn’t like anything that was available. We weren’t able to find one single logo that would express how we felt each time when we had to leave New York. Simply there was nothing cool enough for our taste. All tees were with: I love, I miss, I this, I that, NY blah, blah.
Our trip was getting closer and we were still empty handed. So that is how we got an idea: To create our own logo. A cool logo that will express in few short words what we wanted to say: It is heartbreaking to leave New York City. Plain and simple. We love to travel, but New York City is home. Yes: it is loud, it is dirty and people all pacing around as if they had energizing batteries in their bottoms, but we love it. And out of the blue it just dropped in our lap: I left NY, with letters N and Y within the broken heart. We quickly called a friend who owned tee shirt store in West Village and he made few tee shirts based upon our drawings.
Our trip to Europe was a blast. Thanks to our tee shirts we met tons of people, who were approaching us wherever we went: New Yorkers, ex-New Yorkers, tourists who visited New York, students who studied there and many others. All the time thumbs up, smiles, winking, free drinks in bars, shout or a comment: “I Like your tee shirt,” as we passed by. We realized that lots of people felt the same way, as we did. As soon as we landed we filed an application to copyright our new logo. The rest will be history one day…
